Overview
We are seeking a Band 6 Mammographer to join the Breast Unit at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The unit provides high-quality diagnostic breast imaging for the NHS Breast Screening Programme and the symptomatic breast service, working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, timely, and patient-centred care. The post holder will independently carry out the full range of mammographic procedures, offer clinical guidance to colleagues, and contribute to ongoing service development. There are opportunities to engage in audit, training, and multidisciplinary meetings.
Responsibilities
* Perform the full range of mammographic procedures independently, applying professional judgement and technical expertise to produce accurate diagnostic images while maintaining high standards of patient care and dignity.
* Provide clear explanations to patients, assess clinical needs, adapt techniques to individual circumstances, and give provisional reports on screening mammograms in line with established protocols.
* Support and guide colleagues, supervise radiographers, students and assistants, and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Assist the Superintendent Radiographer with operational efficiency, clinical audits, and service improvement initiatives, ensuring compliance with clinical governance, safety standards and radiation protection legislation.
Qualifications and Experience
* Certificate of Competence in Mammography.
* Current UK state registration; participation in CPD; DCR(R) or BSc Radiography.
* Significant clinical experience; experience of clinical audit (essential).
* Desirable: Experience of NHS breast screening programme.
