Role: Senior Childcare Locum Lawyer
Location: Bury (Hybrid Working Available)
Rate: £50 - £55 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: Immediate start - End of July 2026
Overview
CRA Consulting is delighted to be working in partnership with a well‑regarded Local Authority in Greater Manchester to recruit an experienced Senior Childcare Locum Lawyer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy and supportive legal team, where you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality legal services across Children’s Services. The role offers a varied and meaningful caseload, with the opportunity to make a genuine impact within the local community.
Responsibilities
* Managing a complex caseload of public childcare matters
* Handling care proceedings, adoption, and safeguarding issues
* Providing clear and pragmatic legal advice to social workers and senior stakeholders
* Attending and advocating at hearings where required
* Supporting junior team members and contributing to team development
* Working collaboratively with internal departments to achieve positive outcomes
Qualifications
* Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with full practising rights
* Strong experience in public childcare law, ideally within a Local Authority setting
* Confident advocacy skills and experience handling your own hearings
* Ability to manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision
* Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions‑focused approach
