About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and detail‑driven Production Editor to join our Content Operations team, supporting a fast‑paced and wide‑ranging Academic publishing programme. Working across Higher Education, academic, scholarly, and trade titles, which includes classics, history, law, linguistics, literature, religion, and science, you will oversee the production of both print and digital content from manuscript delivery through to publication. Many of these titles require exceptional attention to detail and high levels of author care, and you will play a key role in ensuring every product reaches the market on time, to budget, and at the highest quality.
In this role, you will be responsible for schedules, budgets, and production workflows; brief and oversee third‑party suppliers; and act as a clear and proactive point of contact for authors, editors, and internal colleagues. You’ll support and guide supplier project managers, helping them resolve issues efficiently while maintaining quality and author confidence throughout the process. You will also engage with design and artwork workflows, ensuring cover design, text design, and imagery align with schedule, cost, and quality expectations.
Alongside delivering your own projects, you will contribute to continuous improvement across Content Operations by identifying workflow enhancements, supporting colleagues through training and problem‑solving, and maintaining accurate tracking systems so information is always up to date. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured yet dynamic environment and enjoys balancing meticulous detail with collaborative, solution‑focused work.
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
