Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for the post of Biomedical Support Worker in Cellular Pathology. The role provides day‑to‑day support within the laboratory team.
Responsibilities
You will be required to assist and be involved with the processing of all types of specimen presented to the Cellular Pathology Department for analysis, thereby supporting the provision of accurate and timely diagnoses.
You will liaise with staff at all levels and within all sections of Cellular Pathology to ensure availability at all times of adequate consumables, reagents, chemicals, solvents and all other items required for service delivery.
You will access and accurately enter data on to both the Trust and departmental information systems to support the sample processing.
You will collaborate effectively as part of a large team, communicating clearly and demonstrating good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Qualifications & Experience
You should have had previous experience working within a diagnostic laboratory.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team are required.
Shift Pattern
The laboratory operates 6 am to 7 pm Monday to Friday, with a rotational Saturday service 7 am to 5 pm (approximately one in five). The successful candidate will also participate in a rotational Bank Holiday service provision (approximately one per annum). This does not currently include Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day or Good Friday.
