Role Overview
We are seeking a New Connections Sales Specialist to support developers and commercial clients with new electricity, gas, and water connections. This position combines technical understanding with strong commercial and sales skills, managing both inbound and outbound enquiries, developing cost-effective connection solutions, and overseeing projects from initial enquiry through to completion. The role includes proactive prospecting, targeted outreach, and close collaboration with the marketing team to drive new business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Generation & Outbound Activity
* Identify and pursue new business opportunities across the utilities sector via outbound calls, email outreach, and targeted campaigns.
* Partner with the marketing team to develop and deliver outbound initiatives aimed at engaging developers and commercial clients requiring new connections.
* Qualify, nurture, and convert prospects into active opportunities.
Managing New Connection Enquiries
* Handle and progress inbound enquiries, identifying commercial potential and securing new work.
* Build and maintain a healthy pipeline by following up with inbound leads and continuously prospecting for new clients.
Technical Consultancy & Proposal Creation
* Advise clients on technical feasibility, network capacity, and regulatory considerations for electricity, gas, and water connections.
* Prepare and present detailed proposals, quotations, and connection plans tailored to each project’s requirements.
Project Coordination & Delivery
* Liaise with DNOs/iDNOs, GDNs, water companies, and engineering teams to manage applications and approvals.
* Monitor project progress, resolve issues, and ensure delivery aligns with timelines, budgets, and compliance standards.
* Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and pipeline updates throughout the project lifecycle.
Client Relationship Management
* Develop strong, long-term relationships with clients, ensuring a high-quality experience from enquiry to delivery.
* Work closely with sales and marketing to ensure consistent messaging and aligned client engagement.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
* Experience within utilities new connections (electricity, gas and/or water).
* Proven success in sales, business development, or client-facing technical roles.
* Strong outbound prospecting skills with the ability to convert leads into revenue.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
* Confident interpreting technical information and presenting it clearly to clients.
* Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple live projects.
Desirable:
* Experience with DNOs, iDNOs, GDNs, or multi-utility providers.
* Understanding of permits, wayleaves, and relevant regulatory processes.
* Technical qualifications or project management accreditation.
