Podiatrist - HMP Whatton and HMP Gartree

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced podiatrist to join our Health in Justice (HiJ) Musculoskeletal (MSK) team, on a part time basis, at HMP Whatton – a category C men's prison in Nottinghamshire and HMP Gartree – a category B men's high‑security prison in Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

This role is 3 sessions per month at HMP Whatton and 2 sessions a month at HMP Gartree; total number of hours are 20 hours a month.

Salary is between £40,000 – £49,000 pro rota depending on experience.

Secure environments are one of the most challenging but rewarding places for healthcare practitioners to work. If you are looking to develop your skills, learn something new and challenge yourself in a different environment, this could be the role for you. You will be supported by a Regional Team Lead and Clinical Lead so if the prison environment is new to you, support will be available to help you settle in.

We also believe in a good work‑life balance, so the hours can be worked flexibly around your other commitments.

Main duties of the job

As our podiatrist, you will:

Provide outstanding evidence‑based care, advanced assessment and treatment of patients who may have complex and/or chronic presentation. You will need to determine clinical diagnosis and clinical treatment, and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

Assess and treat a range of conditions including diabetic patients, wound management, MSK pathologies and nail surgery.

Deliver non‑judgemental care, building therapeutic relationships and promoting professional boundaries. Play an active part in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patients’ care, following our policies and procedures.

Inspire excellence in your colleagues by being pro‑active in the management of foot, ankle and lower extremity conditions and motivate the wider team to identify patients at high risk. Forge strong working relationships with the Practice Plus Group health‑care team and the wider Health in Justice Service.

Be responsible for your own caseload and waiting list and be able to work as an autonomous practitioner.
