Offer description

Join us and project manage one of the UK's most critical energy projects. Sea Link is a major proposed reinforcement of the electricity transmission network between Suffolk and Kent. The project centres on a new, primarily offshore two-gigawatt high-voltage direct current (HVDC) link, playing a vital role in enabling the UK's future energy system. Delivering Sea Link will require significant new onshore infrastructure, including converter stations, substations, underground and overhead electricity lines, as well as upgrades to existing assets - making this one of the most complex and high‑profile projects in the portfolio. As a Lead Project Manager, you'll develop, secure sanction for, deliver and successfully close a major 525kV HVDC Converter project within Sea Link. You'll be accountable for meeting agreed time, cost and quality outcomes, in line with National Grid's Network Development Process, while embedding health, safety and environmental excellence throughout the project lifecycle and delivering against regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments. This role offers hybrid working, combining home, office and site‑based working. You'll be flexible to travel to sites in Suffolk a minimum of three days per week and will need a full UK driving licence.

* Lead the National Grid investment process across the full project lifecycle, from development and consenting through delivery, commissioning and close‑out.
* Deliver safe, compliant and least‑cost solutions in line with CDM Regulations, SHESQ standards and National Grid governance requirements.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, stakeholders, landowners and communities, proactively resolving issues in a timely manner.
* Provide end‑to‑end leadership of project delivery, including design, safety by design, commissioning, scheme closure and post‑completion activities.
* Lead and manage contractors and multi‑disciplinary project teams, including ECI/FEED activities, contract strategy, tendering and site delivery.
* Maintain robust control of programme, cost and risk, producing accurate reporting and financial forecasting to support regulatory and business planning.
* Act as Client's Delegated Representative and Project Manager (FIDIC/NEC), overseeing contractor performance, commissioning and asset handover.
* Mentor and develop Assistant and Project Managers, deputising for Senior Project Managers and undertaking delegated authority when required.
* Experienced Project Manager with responsibility for safety, cost, programme, risk and governance.
* Proficient technical knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System.
* Proven track record of successfully delivering major infrastructure projects and programmes.
* Confident operating within regulated environments and established governance frameworks.
* Strong knowledge of CDM, health, safety and environmental legislation.
* Robust contract management capability across the project lifecycle.
* Proven experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing diverse stakeholders.
* Strong communicator with excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
* Proactive problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
* Customer‑focused, committed to delivering high‑quality outcomes.
* Professional membership (RICS, CIOB, APM or equivalent) desirable.
