Position: Ashes Operative Location: London Job Type: Full-time, 9 month fixed, term contract Salary: £30,555.20 per annum We're looking for a compassionate, reliable, and professional individual to join our dedicated Ashes Redistribution Project Team. This is a meaningful role, ensuring that ashes entrusted to us by families are handled, transported, and stored with dignity, respect, and care. During this important project, you will play a vital part in ensuring that ashes collected from our London branch network are safely transported to South London Crematorium or Tottenham Cemetery for secure storage, processing, and accurate record-keeping. Your work will uphold the trust families place in us-ensuring every set of ashes is cared for with dignity, sensitivity, and professionalism. Your Impact and Responsibilities This role will be based primarily at South London Crematorium and Tottenham Cemetery, and will involve regular travel across our London branch network to collect and transport ashes. As an Ashes Redistribution Operative, you will: Travel between branches across London to collect ashes as part of the redistribution programme Safely transport ashes back to South London Crematorium or Tottenham Cemetery Verify, complete, and maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation Handle, prepare, label, and store ashes with exceptional care and attention Maintain secure, well-organised storage areas in compliance with internal standards Prepare ashes for onward movement, family collection, or internal processes Follow all Health & Safety, regulatory, and manual handling procedures Communicate professionally with colleagues across branches and crematoria Uphold confidentiality, discretion, and dignity in every aspect of the role This is a role where accuracy, professionalism, and sensitivity truly matter. Contract Type & Future Development This position is offered as a 9-month fixed-term contract, aligned to the Ashes Redistribution Project timeline. However, as a growing organisation, opportunities may be available for colleagues who excel in the role. Individuals demonstrating the right values and professionalism may be considered for a permanent Funeral Service Operative position or other operational roles once the project concludes.
