Job Summary
We're looking for a proactive and experienced Operations Manager to join Dartline, a well-established coach and bus operator providing high-quality services across the South West.
In this vital role, you'll oversee the day-to-day running of our bus and coach operations, ensuring our timetabled services, private hires and contract work are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards. You will lead a team of Service Delivery Supervisors and a large driver workforce, driving operational excellence, safety, compliance and customer satisfaction across the business.
This is a busy, hands-on role where no two days are the same — perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys keeping a dynamic transport operation running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee daily service delivery across all coach & bus operations
* Manage driver rosters, working hours, annual leave and vehicle allocations
* Ensure full compliance with DVSA, OCRS and Traffic Commissioner regulations
* Work closely with Engineering to ensure vehicle readiness and availability
* Lead safety management, incident investigations and operational audits
* Monitor operational KPIs including punctuality, utilisation and fuel efficiency
* Support and manage two Service Delivery Supervisors
* Oversee driver communication, performance, training and discipline
* Lead driver recruitment, onboarding and compliance checks
* Organise CPC, Tachograph, PSVAR and other mandatory training
* Identify and implement operational improvements and new technologies
* Act as Dartline's nominated Transport Manager CPC holder
* Provide regular reporting and updates to senior leadership
About you:
* Proven experience within the bus or coach industry, or strong operational experience within wider transport or logistics
* Hold a Manager's CPC in Passenger Transport — this is essential for the role
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support and develop teams
* Excellent understanding of transport compliance, safety and driver management
* Highly organised with strong problem-solving ability and sound decision-making skills
* Confident using IT systems, scheduling tools and operational reporting dashboards
* A flexible approach with the ability to support early starts, late finishes or occasional weekend work when required
