Chemotherapy Nurse

An opportunity has arisen for a chemotherapy nurse to work in the chemotherapy suite in the Primrose Unit.
This post is a developmental role from band 5 to band 6, contingent upon completing relevant chemotherapy training, obtaining the necessary qualification, gaining sufficient experience in delivering chemotherapy, and meeting the set competencies required for a band 6 position.
The post holder will be responsible for administering and caring for patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatment, as well as delivering high standards of specialist cancer and palliative care within the Macmillan Primrose Unit at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust.
Responsibilities include supervising and supporting junior staff, students, and healthcare assistants, and working as part of a multidisciplinary cancer care team.
Main duties of the job
You should possess excellent communication and organisational skills, be trained in the administration of chemotherapy and related treatments, and provide specialised nursing care within a multidisciplinary team. You will be expected to demonstrate high standards of clinical work when assessing, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
Act as a professional role model and provide effective clinical leadership.

* Ensure care delivery aligns with Trust and unit policies.
* Participate in induction and preceptorship programs as appropriate after training.
* Ensure proper custody, administration, and recording of drugs according to Trust policies, regional guidelines, and NMC standards.
* Follow policies on extravasation of cytotoxic drugs and anaphylaxis when required.
* Report any issues affecting the standard of patient care to the Unit/Ward Manager.
* Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (NMC)

* Substantial experience in acute general practice or similar
* Strong practical/clinical skills
