Redwood River School is a brand-new independent specialist setting for neurodivergent children and young people aged 6–18, including those with ASC, PDA, SEMH needs, developmental trauma, and other complex learning profiles. Our school is based in the heart of the Dartington Estate, surrounded by natural beauty and designed to offer calm, connected, and creative spaces for every learner.
As part of our exciting journey, we’re offering a unique opportunity for a passionate and experienced SENCo to join our founding team. This is more than a role—it’s a rare chance to shape something meaningful from the very beginning.
What You’ll Be Doing:
1. Leading and coordinating the school’s SEND provision across all phases
2. Developing EHCP planning and ensuring statutory compliance and review processes
3. Supporting staff with personalised strategies for learners with Autism, PDA, SEMH and associated needs
4. Working closely with families, local authorities and external professionals
5. Embedding inclusive, trauma-informed, and relational practices throughout the school
6. Leading Annual Reviews and ensuring the voice of the student is central
7. Training and supporting staff in best SEND practice and neurodiversity-affirming approaches
8. Contributing to whole-school strategy, vision and growth as part of the Senior Leadership Team

What We’re Looking For:
15. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or similar
16. National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to work towards it)
17. Proven experience as a SENCo or senior SEND practitioner in an SEN or inclusive setting
18. Deep understanding of neurodivergence, SEMH, ASC, PDA and trauma-informed practice
19. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff and families
20. A reflective, relational approach and an openness to working in new and creative ways
21. Commitment to inclusive education, student voice, and wellbeing-led practice
