Consultant Psychiatrist (Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) – Tees and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. Closing date: 31 July 2026.
Main Duties
Post holder will, with their consultant colleague, see all presentations requiring a psychiatrist arising from secondary schools and their feeder primary schools within the Selby sector. The caseload is expected to be around 100, with approximately 2 new assessments per week. The service supports a model where all cases are co‑worked with the multidisciplinary team, care coordinator, and lead professional. Post holder will also have responsibility, together with the other consultant in the team, for the provision of psychiatric services to children and young people living in the Selby area.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management of children and young people.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive care delivery.
* Deliver services in accordance with TEWV Clinical Pathways, ensuring evidence‑based care.
* Participate in quality improvement activities, service audit, and development initiatives.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
* Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT.
* Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Additional clinical qualifications.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register in the relevant specialty.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Knowledge & Skills
* Excellent knowledge in specialty and clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty, making decisions based on evidence and experience.
* Experience in meeting duties under the MHA and MCA.
* Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to the post within the NHS or comparable service.
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Participation in continuous professional development and research or service evaluation.
* Ability to use and appraise clinical evidence.
* Active participation in clinical audit.
* Experience in planning and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching relevant to this post.

* Trained to QI intermediate level in the TEWV Trust Quality Improvement system.

Benefits
Salary: £113,565 to £150,569 a year. Post may be subject to recruitment premia.
