Fixed term or Secondment Opportunity* for 6 months due to the improvement in service delivery.

*Secondment Opportunity – Existing permanent employees must first discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager and complete the secondment request form prior to interview. The secondment request form and the associated secondment policy can be found on the HR/Recruitment intranet pages and must be completed and signed by the substantive line manager. The Candidate should then take it with them to interview as confirmation that an agreement has been granted.

The pharmacy department in the acute Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility that makes use of modern technologies including robotics. We implemented Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HePMA) throughout the acute hospital in 2016, and it has since been rolled out across key sites in the health board. The system has also recently been upgraded in the summer of this year, with plans for partial roll out to our Emergency Department (ED) underway.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our pharmacy team within Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH). The post holder will divide their time equally between two key areas:

HePMA Team: The post holder will be part of a dedicated HePMA team, responsible for the ongoing development of the HePMA system in NHS Forth Valley. This includes extending the patient safety and clinical benefits that the system delivers to clinicians. You will work closely with the System Manager, clinicians, and the wider pharmacy team to advance the safe and effective operation of the system. This will involve finding innovative ways to use reports and protocols, as well as helping to optimise use of the Pharmacist Early Warning (PhEW) tool to improve clinical pharmacy patient prioritisation.

Emergency Department: The other half of the role will be based within the Emergency Department (ED), providing a clinical pharmacy service as part of a ‘test of change’. The post holder, working alongside the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), will be expected to help demonstrate the benefits of this service model, contributing to the evaluation and potential future development of pharmacy services within the ED.

We are looking for a motivated pharmacist with an appetite for change to play a key role in our team, helping to shape our services for the future and support our delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.

Ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.

The duties of this post require the successful candidate to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. More information on this scheme can be found at www.disclosurescotland.co.uk

For further information or an informal discussion regarding the above post, please contact Jonathan Cavan, Associate Director of Pharmacy – Mental Health, Governance & eSystems (Jonathan.cavan2@nhs.scot ) or Michael Smith, Lead Clinical Pharmacist - Acute Services (michael.smith11@nhs.scot ).
