GSL Education are currently recruiting on behalf of a forward-thinking school in Sheffield that supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs as an SEMH Teaching Assistant. Role Overview: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who struggle with emotional regulation, behavioural difficulties, and mental health barriers. You will support them through consistent, patient engagement, building strong relationships to help unlock their potential in the classroom and beyond. Key Responsibilities: Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs. Assist in implementing individual behaviour and learning plans. Promote positive behavioural strategies and de-escalation techniques. Foster a calm and inclusive learning environment to help pupils re-engage with education. Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies. Record student progress and contribute to reviews of support strategies. Uphold school safeguarding and welfare policies at all times. Job Requirements: Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or trauma-related needs. A calm, non-judgmental, and patient approach with strong interpersonal skills. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles. Flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive attitude in varied classroom settings. A relevant qualification in education, psychology, counselling, or youth work (desirable but not essential). Understanding of various SEMH conditions. Have an updated CV ( covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps ) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). Why Join GSL Education?
