About the Role
We are recruiting a Health and Wellbeing Practitioner at HMP Coldingley. At Forward Trust, we deliver a range of drug and alcohol services within the prison environment, including advice, health and wellbeing support, motivational work, clinical services, and group work and treatment programmes.
Our services, commissioned by NHS England, are delivered in partnership with healthcare providers and HMPPS, emphasizing integration and partnership.
Our aim is to support individuals affected by drug or alcohol issues to create lasting change, reducing dependency, homelessness, unemployment, and re-offending.
Role Responsibilities
The practitioner will provide clinical and psychosocial substance misuse services across Surrey Prisons, working within a trauma-informed and gender-responsive framework. The role involves working directly with detainees, many of whom may have low-level mental health or substance misuse issues. The service operates 7 days a week, requiring weekend work on a rota basis.
Key responsibilities include managing caseloads, delivering harm reduction advice, conducting assessments, formulating care plans, facilitating group sessions, and planning for release and transitional support.
Accurate data recording and reporting are essential for measuring the effectiveness of interventions.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Experience in mental health or substance misuse services
* Strong IT skills
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Experience in assessments and care planning
* Delivery of structured interventions and group work facilitation
* Motivational interviewing, CBT, or counselling skills
* Knowledge of substance dependency issues and recovery strategies
* Experience working in prison settings
Personal experience of addiction or incarceration (minimum 3 years in recovery for addicts, at least 5 years since release for ex-prisoners) is preferred.
