Legal Counsel – Permanent Position
Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid model – at least 40% of time in office)
Salary: £70,000 – £75,000 (dependent on experience)

Overview
You will provide clear, practical legal advice across areas including disputes, complaints, regulation and pensions. Working closely with business colleagues, you will help manage risk, resolve issues before they reach court or regulators, and ensure the company’s operations comply with regulatory guidance.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide straightforward legal advice on disputes and complaints, helping colleagues understand risks and next steps.
* Support the resolution of issues before escalation to Court, the Ombudsman or the Pensions Regulator.
* Assist with cases that progress externally, collaborating with senior team members to manage risk and outcomes.
* Interpret regulatory guidance (including from the Pensions Regulator) and help the business apply it in practice.
* Lead the instruction and management of external legal advisers where required.
* Represent the business in meetings with external bodies such as the Ombudsman or regulators, with support from the wider team.
Qualifications
* Qualified solicitor or barrister (Scotland and/or England).
* Experience in dispute resolution, litigation or complaints handling – ideally within financial services or pensions.
* Good understanding of contract law and the regulatory environment.
* Some experience or exposure to working with regulators such as the Pensions Regulator.
* Strong written skills, able to draft clear and accurate legal documents.
* Confidence communicating with a range of stakeholders in a practical and approachable style.
* Good judgement and a willingness to learn, with the ability to break down complex issues into clear advice.
