An established UK-based engineering consultancy is seeking a Manufacturing Specialist to lead and develop its in-house and outsourced manufacturing capabilities. Specializing in complex product development across electronics, RF systems, and sensing technologies, the company works with a wide range of clients to deliver innovative, low-to-mid volume products from concept to market.
The Role
You will be responsible for driving the company's manufacturing strategy, managing external partners, and ensuring the seamless transfer of complex electronic products - including PCB assemblies and mechanical enclosures - into production. This role offers a blend of technical delivery, supplier engagement, and client-facing work across a variety of sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and grow internal manufacturing capabilities and processes.
Lead DfMA and transfer-to-manufacture efforts for electronic products, including RF systems.
Oversee prototype builds and volume production (UK and international).
Manage relationships with contract manufacturers and supply chain partners.
Coordinate with internal engineers, project managers, and quality personnel to ensure successful product delivery.
Support client engagements from early-stage design through to scaled production.
Ensure documentation, traceability, and compliance-particularly in regulated sectors such as aerospace or defence.
Skills & Experience:
Strong understanding of electronics manufacturing, including SMT processes and mechanical assembly.
Experience with the full product development lifecycle, ideally in low-to-mid volume environments.
Comfortable managing supplier performance, manufacturing readiness, and design for manufacture.
Capable of guiding clients through concept-to-production workflows.
Familiarity with MOD or aerospace/space sector requirements (e.g., AS9100, ESA/ECSS standards) is a plus.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
