We are looking for an experienced Assistant Director to join our growing Government and Public Sector team within Infrastructure & Real Estate Advisory. With a specific focus on central and local government clients, this role will give you the chance to work on some of the most significant and complex real estate and infrastructure challenges facing the public sector today.
The successful candidate will have a track record of working with senior government stakeholders, an understanding of public sector governance, and a passion for delivering complex projects within advisory solutions. You’ll leverage deep sector knowledge and networks to help our client optimise their real estate and infrastructure investments and achieve sustainability goals.
Within our team you will have the opportunity to:
* Lead project delivery on complex, high-profile government real estate and infrastructure projects, managing teams and taking accountability for successful outcomes
* Build relationships with senior client stakeholders within central and local government departments
* Manage and develop teams of consultants, providing coaching and mentorship to help them build their careers
* Support business development by identifying new opportunities, contributing to proposals and helping to build our profile across the public sector
* Work in a stimulating and challenging environment with like-minded people who are at the forefront of their chosen field
* Develop your expertise across estate strategy, capital programmes, facilities management and infrastructure advisory. Particular focus areas include:
* Estate and Asset Management: Supporting clients with strategic aims including net zero and improved value for money
* Workplace Strategy: Defining requirements for new workplaces and supporting delivery of workplace transformation programmes
* Facilities Management: Reviewing operating models and procurement strategies, designing and supporting delivery of optimisation programmes
* Business Case Development: Developing Green Book Business Cases to secure funding approval for major accommodation projects.
Examples of our work across the Public Sector includes:
* Developing an Estates and Asset Management Strategy for a Central Government department, in line with their strategic aims including net zero improved value for money.
* Supporting a client to assess options and select the location for a new HQ office location, define the outline requirement and stand up the programme to deliver and service this new workplace to its 2000+ staff.
* Reviewing the facilities management operating model and procurement strategy for future services, designing and supporting delivery of an optimisation programme and developing the business case and requirement for the re-procurement of new service contracts.
* Development of Green Book Business Cases to secure funding approval for major accommodation projects across the UK with whole-life costs of £10m-£1bn+;
* Developing the strategy and associated programme for redesign of a HQ office facility, identifying requirements for new workspaces to support the organisation’s future strategy and address workforce needs.
* Conducting a review of a high-profile workplace HQ relocation, assessing deliverability and effectiveness against industry best practice and identifying potential issues and risks.
Connect to your skills and professional experience
The calibre of the clients you’ll work with is exceptionally high. Some of our projects require UK security clearance so you must be eligible to apply and obtain UK security clearance to Security Check (SC) and/or Developed Vetting (DV) level, if not an existing clearance holder.
* Proven experience in real estate, infrastructure, capital projects or facilities management, with a strong focus on government and public sector clients
* Project leadership - you’ve led projects, managed teams and taken responsibility for delivering results
* Client relationships - experience working with senior stakeholders in government, with the confidence to build trust and act as an advisor
* People management - you’ve managed consultants, provided feedback and helped develop their skills
* Commercial acumen - you understand project economics, can manage budgets and timelines, and know what successful delivery looks like
* Technical knowledge - strong understanding of government processes including business case development (Green Book, Five Case Model), governance frameworks and assurance requirements
* Analytical skills - you can collect and analyse complex data, solve problems and develop recommendations that shape project outcomes
* Communication - excellent written and oral skills, comfortable preparing reports for senior audiences and leading stakeholder workshops
* Business development experience - you’ve supported bids, identified opportunities and contributed to winning work
* Confidence, independence and proactivity, including enthusiasm when faced with new experiences and a can-do attitude to resolving challenges; and
* Ability to travel as required
* Willingness and eligibility to obtain UK security clearance (SC and/or DV level, if required).
* Professional qualification in a relevant area (eg ACA, CIMA, MICE, MRICS) welcomed but not a pre-requisite. Project Management and Stakeholder Engagement experience will be of particular relevance.

Infrastructure and Real Estate
Our Infrastructure and Real Estate team supports both public and private sector clients on complex infrastructure, real estate, and capital projects.Typical engagements include urban regeneration, transport, energy and renewables, and occupier advisory to central government and large corporate companies.

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm).
