The Independent Living Supported Tenancies Service offers Independent Living and Tenancy related support to adults with a learning disability. The service covers all geographical areas in Calderdale.
The service is typically delivered in each person’s home environment. However the service also offers support for appointments in relation to medical, housing and financial needs. The main areas of support that are offered are health and safety checks, dealing with correspondence, benefit applications and appeals, domestic tasks, financial planning, debt management, housing support and medical support. The workload is varied and can be challenging at times.
The support worker role involves supporting people with a learning disability to maintain their tenancy and develop independent living skills. You must perform the role in a person centred and non-judgemental way. You are required to deliver support as identified on the person’s plan, monitor the well being of the person and report concerns and record the support offered. Records are held both manually and electronically.
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate not only with those who use the service, but other professionals e.g. social workers, medical personnel, housing officers and those who work at The Department of Work and Pensions. The ideal candidate will have a strong values base and be keen to support people to reach their potential and be as independent as possible. The ideal candidate will be resilient and hard working and keen to support people to get the best outcomes. Experience of working in a social care arena is desirable but not essential. However, the candidate must have the use of their own vehicle for use at work and have the appropriate business insurance cover. You must be able to work as part of a team, but large parts of the role are performed as a lone worker out in the community.
Employees of the Council enjoy a comprehensive reward and benefits package, which includes generous terms and conditions of employment and access to a wide range of retail discounts and lifestyle savings to name a few.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS (formerly CRB) from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.
