The Role
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will oversee the full commercial management of 3-4 projects simultaneously, ensuring strong financial control, contractual compliance, and successful project delivery.
Working closely with operational teams, clients, subcontractors, and directors, you will manage all commercial aspects from procurement through to final account while supporting the development of junior commercial staff.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management
1. Full commercial responsibility for multiple civil engineering and groundworks projects
2. Managing cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting
3. Preparing and submitting applications for payment
4. Producing and maintaining CVRs and cost forecasts
5. Managing change control, variations, and commercial risk
6. Monitoring project performance and profitability
Procurement & Supply Chain Management
7. Procuring materials and subcontract packages
8. Negotiating subcontract agreements and supplier terms
9. Managing subcontractor accounts and valuations
10. Supporting procurement strategies across projects
Estimating & Tender Support
11. Assisting with tendering and estimating activities
12. Reviewing project opportunities and pricing information
13. Supporting commercial input into bids and submissions
14. Providing cost advice during pre-construction stages
Team Leadership
15. Managing and mentoring an Assistant Quantity Surveyor
16. Providing commercial guidance and support to project teams
17. Supporting the development of commercial processes and best practices
Reporting & Stakeholder Management
18. Producing accurate commercial reports and forecasts
19. Working closely with operational teams to maximise project performance
20. Attending client, site, and commercial meetings
21. Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships
Requirements
Essential:
22. Minimum 7 years' Quantity Surveying experience
23. Strong UK civil engineering and groundworks experience
24. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
25. Proven track record of cost control, forecasting, CVRs, and change management
26. Strong subcontractor procurement and negotiation experience
27. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel
28. Experience using Bluebeam
29. Strong communication and commercial management skills
30. Full UK Driving Licence
