About Role
As a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), you will support the educational needs of children with special needs across our schools in Greater Manchester. This involves leadership in teaching practices, developing tailored interventions, and guiding staff.
The role includes a teaching component, working directly with students to apply best practices in a classroom setting, which is essential in our smaller setting to monitor student progress closely.
Purpose of the Role
* Ensure all pupils achieve their potential.
* Lead and manage teaching, modeling professional practice.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
* Collaborate with management and staff to promote high standards of behaviour, engagement, and achievement.
* Monitor teaching to meet pupils' needs.
* Guide staff to uphold EdStart’s core values.
Teaching and Learning
* Teach study skills for independent work.
* Implement teaching approaches for SEN pupils.
* Track pupil progress effectively.
* Screen pupils at entry to identify needs.
Staff Training and Development
* Lead workshops to improve teaching practices.
* Train staff on intervention programs and SEN strategies.
* Support staff pedagogically.
Operational Management
* Manage teaching programs and resources.
* Ensure communication with stakeholders and authorities is up-to-date.
* Share SEN best practices.
Safeguarding and Wellbeing
* Act as the Designated Senior Person for Safeguarding.
* Manage provision for looked-after children and contribute to reviews.
* Promote student wellbeing involving parents and agencies.
Parental and Stakeholder Engagement
* Maintain partnerships with parents and stakeholders.
* Provide updates on pupil progress and support programs.
Behavior Management
* Implement behaviour strategies with the Managing Director.
Provision Mapping and IEPs
* Develop and review the provision map and IEPs.
* Encourage staff ownership of provision and progress.
External Collaboration
* Build links with other schools and agencies.
* Liaise with external support services.
Qualifications
* 2 years management experience, preferably in Alternative Provision.
* Work-related qualifications (desirable).
