Role Information
The school is seeking a skilled, professional, and creative Performing Arts Technician to support the Drama, Music, and Theatre departments. This is a hands-on, varied, and highly collaborative technical role.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing technical support for school productions, concerts, rehearsals, and events
* Operating and maintaining sound equipment, lighting rigs, AV systems, and stage technologies
* Managing stage setup, scenery, props, costume storage, and backstage logistics
* Supporting pupils during rehearsals and technical workshops
* Ensuring all equipment is safely stored, maintained, and serviced
* Installing, testing, and operating sound/lighting systems for curriculum and performances
* Assisting with digital media content, recording, video editing, and promotional materials
* Coordinating with external theatre companies, visiting performers, and contractors
* Ensuring full compliance with health & safety standards in performance spaces
* Supporting the Performing Arts teaching team with lesson resources, equipment, and displays
* Keeping accurate usage logs and reporting maintenance needs to the Estates/Facilities Team
The role requires flexibility during production weeks, including occasional evenings.
Requirements
* Technical theatre, sound engineering, or performing arts production experience
* Strong understanding of lighting (LED & traditional), sound desks, and theatre tech
* Ability to rig lights, set up AV, operate sound systems, and troubleshoot equipment
* Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing demands
* Creative eye for staging, design, and technical presentation
* Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
* Ability to support young performers in a professional, encouraging manner
* Health & Safety awareness within performance spaces
