We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a full time MAPPA Administrator in a high profile area of our organisation. You will be working in our Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements Team and Violent and Sex Offender Registers Team (MAPPA & ViSOR).
What does each department do?
MAPPA – Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements is the process through which the police, probation and prison services work together with other agencies to assess and manage violent and sexual offenders in order to protect the public from harm.
VISOR – Violent and Sex Offender Register is the database that all individuals have to register on under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. This register is a national one that contains information on the individual as well as other key information that is shared by all users of the database.
What will be expected of me?
Our Administrators perform a wide range of tasks to support our colleagues: attending and participating in Multiagency meetings, taking minutes, maintaining records on individuals, providing documentation for the register, and regularly contacting colleagues from other departments internally and externally including the probation service and social care services. Other tasks include setting up meetings, managing a busy mailbox with MAPPA queries, receiving reports and updating records. You will need to review and work through large volumes of data and information. No two days will be the same in this role and it is a fast-paced environment where you will need to think independently but also be able to work effectively as part of a team. You will be reading and hearing things of a sensitive and confidential nature such as offending history of violent, dangerous and sexual offenders, including domestic abuse offenders. As such you need to be resilient, able to see past emotive detail and focus on delivering a supportive service that leads to positive outcomes. The ability to remain impartial will also be key in this role as most offenders will not remain in prison indefinitely and the department has a duty of care to both victims and offenders.
Skills, experience and qualifications required
* Experience of working in an administrative role including experience of taking complex meeting minutes
* Skilled computer user with the ability to type 35 words per minute
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of professionals both verbally and in writing
* Experience of record keeping and presenting information such as statistics within reports
Due to the nature of the role and the need to access specific systems you will have a fixed working location at our Headquarters in Portishead, so you will need to hold a full current driving licence or be able to travel around the force area using alternative transport.
Additional information
Candidates who are successful in shortlisting will be invited to attend a mandatory familiarisation event where we will talk to you in detail about the role, responsibilities and will share some of the emotive content referred to above. The event will take place via Microsoft Teams. This is a full time opportunity working 37 hours per week (Mon-Fri). We are currently recruiting for one position but are using this recruitment process to create a reserve pool of applicants for additional MAPPA/ViSOR Administrator roles that may become available within the next 6 months. MAPPA meetings are currently being held virtually, however, this could change and there may be a requirement to travel around the force area as required to attend these meetings. Working at Headquarters in Portishead, you will have access to free parking, a Costa Coffee, canteen facility and extensive beautiful grounds with wildlife, all minutes from the M5 and within easy commuting distance across the South West and beyond. You will also have access to a Psychological Support Service through our Occupation Health Team.
