The role
Mumsnet is looking for a hands-on Head of Finance to lead the day-to-day finance function and act as a close partner to the CEO and leadership team.
This role owns financial accuracy, control and delivery across the business, while also playing a key supporting role in commercial decision-making and planning. You will translate strategy into robust financial plans, ensure the business has clear visibility on performance and cash, and continuously improve how finance supports decision-making.
As Mumsnet develops new revenue streams, this role is central to building clarity, discipline and confidence in the numbers.
This is a senior, practical role for someone who enjoys being close to the detail but wants exposure to broader commercial thinking in a growing digital business.
What you'll be doing
Finance ownership and control
* Own the end-to-end finance function, including management accounts, forecasting, budgeting, cashflow and statutory reporting.
* Ensure monthly reporting is timely, accurate and clearly explained, with meaningful variance analysis.
* Maintain strong financial controls across revenue, costs, payroll and working capital.
* Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers, banks and other external partners.
Performance reporting and insight
* Lead weekly performance and revenue reporting, turning data into clear, practical insight for the leadership team.
* Build and maintain financial models to support planning, forecasting and commercial discussions.
* Support the development and tracking of unit economics across major revenue streams, including advertising, subscriptions and data-led products.
* Work closely with the CEO to sense-check assumptions, highlight risks and surface trade-offs.
Cashflow and operational finance
* Produce weekly cashflow forecasts and longer-term cash planning.
* Oversee billing, accounts receivable and credit control across all revenue streams.
* Manage accounts payable and supplier contracts, partnering with budget holders to improve cost control and efficiency.
* Prepare payroll and ensure accuracy and compliance across all related processes.
Planning and forecasting
* Lead the annual budgeting process and regular re-forecasting cycles.
* Support scenario planning and sensitivity analysis to help leadership understand options and constraints.
* Improve forecast consistency and reliability over time.
Systems and process improvement
* Drive incremental improvements in finance systems, reporting and processes.
* Reduce manual work and improve clarity, speed and consistency in finance outputs.
* Ensure finance information integrates effectively with wider business reporting.
Team leadership
* Lead, develop and support the finance team.
* Set clear standards for accuracy, ownership and delivery
What success looks like in your first 6–12 months
* Leadership has confidence in the numbers and uses them actively in decision-making.
* Management reporting is clear, fast and consistent.
* Cashflow forecasting is reliable and regularly informs operational decisions.
* The basics of unit economics are well understood and visible across key revenue streams.
* Finance processes run smoothly with less friction for the wider business.
* The finance team feels supported, organised and effective.

* Experience leading or mentoring a small finance team.
* Highly organised, detail-focused and pragmatic, with a collaborative working style.

We expect great performance, agility and collaboration in every role; cross-team working with talented, clever people is the best part of life at Mumsnet. Most importantly we're looking for candidates with a growth mindset - we know everyone makes mistakes, the important thing is to learn from them and to share your learnings.
We embraced flexible and home working a long time before COVID, and we care much more about outputs than hours on the clock. We don't only want to hire the best people: we want to retain them. If you need some flexibility, let us know and we'll do our best.
We're committed to diversity and equality (see our policy here) and we think we're second to none in the all-round support we offer to parents and carers at work (see our parental leave policies here). Working for Mumsnet means never having to pretend you don't have a family or other commitments, and we promise never to keep you away from a school appointment.
We have a healthy line-up of sandwich lunches, knowledge sessions, monthly socials and sports teams, as well as an unhealthy line-up of staff parties at Kentish Town's excellent pubs and restaurants.
