We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals.

Role and responsibilities

As ECU Manager you will be the strategic lead for the way we manage financial investigations, ensuring we fulfil our obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). You will be proactive with a strong focus on continually improving and enhancing our processes. You will manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer. You will provide strong leadership, motivate and develop your team, and manage performance and work delivery.

You will work collaboratively with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC). You’ll influence at senior levels to ensure EA priorities are recognised by external enforcement agencies.

Alongside ECU duties, you will support the wider organisation in improving how we work and increasing understanding of POCA. You will share lessons learned, contribute to changes in technical documentation, and advise other enforcement officers nationally.

Team and environment

The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigations Team – with Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. It is a nationally dispersed team working with enforcement staff and partners, tackling the most serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.

Experience and skills

You must have exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team. You should have a good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.

* Experience in the law enforcement sector and understanding of the National Intelligence Model
* Effective communication including delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals within it

Additional information

This is a hybrid role; you’ll work from home and your nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties will be required. Incident response is a central part of our work, and you may be required to have an incident role or provide business continuity support during incidents (may attract additional payment). Training and workplace adjustments are available to support you.

Interviews will take place w/c 3 November 2025.
