The Ground Engineering and Geotechnics team provides consultancy and design services to the 18 RSK Geosciences teams based across the UK and wider RSK Group companies, as well as a broad range of external private and public sector clients. Our current workload includes major infrastructure, commercial and residential development schemes both in the UK and internationally. Due to the rapid increase in workloads, we are looking to expand our highly experienced team with a Senior /Principal Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer. We are specifically looking for candidates that have a minimum of at five to ten year’s relevant experience in the planning, supervision and project management of ground investigations and ideally with line management of more junior members of the team.
What you'll be doing as our new Senior / Principal Engineering Geologist / Geotechnical Engineer:
1. Completing and managing geotechnical projects through desk studies and ground investigation phases, through to the production of interpretive reports for projects in both the UK and overseas
2. Design, supervision and management of ground investigation and construction works
3. Earthworks design, specification and supervision/verification
4. Working knowledge of BS5930, Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications
5. Effectively communicating with clients (both external and within the wider RSK group) and colleagues to build strong working relationships with the aim of meeting and exceeding client expectations, and contributing to a strong team ethic
6. Managing projects to meet both commercial and technical requirements and working with technical and projects leads to deliver appropriate solution
7. Managing, motivating, mentoring and developing junior professional staff
8. Preliminary review of draft technical work by more junior members of staff, such as logs, schedules, factual and interpretative report and drawings
9. Supporting business development, developing new leads and preparation of tenders
10. Stewardship of health and safety in accordance with company standards
This particular role is an excellent opportunity to work with a wide range of public and private sector clients on some key and major projects offering the opportunity for you to further develop your existing broad consultancy experience. The role will be predominantly office based, but will involve some site-based supervision of geotechnical (and occasionally geo-environmental) investigations, meetings with clients, site visits for tendering and for support of junior staff whilst on site. The office-based time will be for project management, analysis and reporting elements of projects. (Office based time may be remote / home based with a hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office 2 working remotely (subject to project / site work requirements). Depending on project and operational requirements, there may be an occasional need for longer periods on site.
What we're looking for:
11. Demonstrable experience in the following:Preparation of geotechnical desk studies/geohazard assessmentsDesigning, specifying, supervising and managing ground investigationsDeveloping ground models and deriving geotechnical parametersProduction of high quality interpretative reports and specificationsGeotechnical analysis of foundations, slopes, earthworks etc
12. Experience of managing complex inner city ground investigations for high rise buildings, deep basements and foundation reuse projects, including preparation of Basement Impact Assessment reports would be desirable
13. Experience with Geo-environmental site investigation would be desirable
14. Experience with preparation of earthworks documentation in accordance with DMRB HD 22/08 ‘Managing Geotechnical Risk’, supervision and management of earthworks projects would be desirable but not essential
15. Willingness to work away from home office in the UK or overseas for short to medium periods preferred, but not essential
16. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
17. Able to work independently and as part of a team
18. Computer literate and skilled with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook etc
19. Use of digital technologies such as the use of GIS, Leapfrog or other 3D ground modelling software, programming, data processing competency desirable
20. Knowledge of geotechnical software packages including Oasys Geotechnical Pro Suite, Wallap, PLAXIS etc desirable, but not essential as training will be given
21. Full UK drivers licence.
Qualifications & Certification:
22. BEng/Meng/BSc or equivalent in Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering or Geology or related subject essential
23. MSc in geotechnics/engineering geology or similar desirable but not essential
24. Working towards chartership with either the Geological Society or ICE or another relevant professional body. (Principal level candidates will require chartership to have been achieved already)
