Technical Underwriter: This 18-month secondment reports to the Senior Underwriter and you’ll contribute to the profitable development of Ageas UK’s Private Car, Commercial Vehicle and Motorcycle accounts. You’ll be responsible for designing and maintaining product and policy covers, technical documentation, underwriting rules, and customer propositions—ensuring everything aligns with regulatory requirements and supports our strategic goals.
You’ll also play a key role in supporting business growth across all channels by delivering business-as-usual activity, change initiatives, and strategic projects with accuracy and efficiency. Working closely with internal teams, you’ll help prioritise resources, identify process improvements, and explore opportunities to future-proof our operations—particularly using AI tools. This is a collaborative role that also involves guiding and supporting the wider Technical Underwriting team.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Product Development & Governance: Lead the creation and maintenance of underwriting rules, policy covers, and technical documentation to support product performance and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
2. Project & Change Delivery: Represent underwriting in strategic projects and lead business-led initiatives, ensuring products and processes remain fit for purpose and are delivered on time.
3. Process Improvement & Innovation: Identify and implement improvements to underwriting processes, leveraging AI tools and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
4. Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to manage priorities, resolve conflicts, and represent Ageas in relevant market forums.
5. Team Support & Development: Provide guidance, coaching, and support to the Technical Underwriting team, contributing to professional development and reducing key person dependencies.
6. Data & Risk Management: Analyse data to identify trends and risks, update documentation accordingly, and ensure technical content reflects business needs and mitigates exposure.
Skills and experience:
7. A solid understanding of underwriting and pricing principles and experience of product developments, and the construction of policy wordings.
8. Experience of project work is essential.
9. Ability to build and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, with excellent skills in explaining interpretation of policy wordings, underwriting and pricing decisions and technical issues.
10. A good working knowledge of the insurance market with an understanding of the software house market and the way insurance products are developed and transacted electronically on their systems.
11. Passion for innovation and continuous improvement in underwriting practices.
12. Knowledge of MS Office software, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint to intermediate level.
13. A good degree of numeracy with a strong ability to analyse and interpret complex data
