Offer description

The Day Intervention Unit in the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy encompasses Day Surgery, Endoscopy and Interventional Radiology, this post will predominantly be based within endoscopy (decontamination room) however, flexibility to work within all the specialties within the unit is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within this diverse, forward thinking multidisciplinary team within the Day Intervention Unit, Victoria Hospital.
The Fife Wide Endoscopy service operates on three sites. There are 4 endoscopy rooms and 21 recovery beds at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, 2 Endoscopy rooms and 8 recovery beds at Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline and one endoscopy room and 8 recovery beds at St Andrews Community Hospital.

The successful candidate will be based in the endoscopy decontamination unit at the Victoria hospital, although rotation to Queen Margaret and St Andrews may be required.

A significant part of this post is the cleaning, disinfecting, reprocessing and maintenance of endoscopes and endoscopy equipment. Endoscopes and the reprocessing machines are very expensive equipment so there is a robust education and mentorship programme in place within the unit to help support all learning. There are extremely strict infection control procedures that are required to be adhered to when reprocessing endoscopes. Good, effective communication skills are essential as priorities and tasks are likely to change on a regular basis throughout the working day, communication of these changes is essential between various teams within and out with the unit.

You will also be expected at times to work in endoscopy rooms during procedures, within the admission and recovery area of the unit delivering high quality patient care and housekeeping tasks and complete the Mandatory Induction Standards for New Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs)

The successful candidate will also be expected to complete the required 9 modules of the NES Decontamination of RMDs (Reusable Medical Devices) Endoscopy Programme

There is also learning opportunity to develop extended skills such as venepuncture, patient vital signs and blood glucose monitoring with a supportive mentoring facility in place.

For further information please contact Senior endoscopy support nurse and Endoscopy Decontamination Manager Anne Haythorne on 01592 643355, ext 29906 or SCN Katie Black ext 29688

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.

We offer flexible working and family-friendly policies and fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.
As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here.
It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.
