We are a UK-based MHRA‑regulated pharmaceutical company specialising in the procurement, over‑labelling, wholesale, and supply of UK‑licensed and unlicensed medicines to NHS hospitals, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers.
About the Role
The Head of Procurement will be responsible for developing, leading, and executing procurement strategies to support the needs of the Medicine Over‑Labelling, Wholesale and the Unlicensed Medicines Sales Teams. They ensure product availability, optimum stock levels, increased efficiency, informed procurement strategies and robust supply‑chain management, whilst also improving overall profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement Management
* Develop and implement procurement strategies to support sales and operational goals across the business.
* Forecast demand accurately in collaboration with the sales teams as well as other departments such as the production team to ensure stock levels are always kept at optimum levels.
* Identify opportunities for cost savings, improved margins, and more reliable supply chains.
* Monitor market trends, pricing movements, and supply disruptions, and take pro‑active actions/make timely decisions to minimise supply disruptions.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with UK pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, and parallel traders (as required) to ensure consistent supply.
* Negotiate and agree commercial terms, pricing agreements, and supply contracts to secure and continually improve a supply chain for the business that is resilient and of best value.
* Develop new supplier relationships to expand product access as well as strengthen purchasing power.
* Act as the key commercial contact for supplier negotiations and strategic partnerships.
Wholesale Procurement Strategy
* Monitor and anticipate market shortages or price fluctuations.
* Develop and execute strategic procurement to maximise profitability.
* Manage high‑volume purchasing efficiently, ensuring competitive pricing and reliable supply.
* Work closely with the sales team to align procurement strategy with current and forecasted demand.
* Ensure timely procurement of medicines required for over‑labelling.
* Work closely with the sales team and production team to ensure procurement schedule aligns with production schedules and meets the demand and forecasted need provided by the sales team.
* Monitor expiry dates and lead times to avoid production delays or stock wastage.
* Collaborate with production and QA to ensure that procured products meet regulatory and operational requirements.
Unlicensed Medicines Procurement
* Work closely with the sales and QA teams to develop knowledge of MHRA requirements for importing unlicensed medicines.
* Review existing overseas supplier networks and look for ways to improve overseas supply chain.
* Support the export of UK medicines to overseas partners where commercially and legally appropriate.
Compliance & Quality
* Ensure procurement activities comply with MHRA, GDP, GMP, and Home Office regulations.
* Maintain accurate procurement records for audit and regulatory inspections.
* Collaborate closely with Quality Assurance and Regulatory teams to support supplier qualifications and product compliance.
Leadership & Reporting
* Provide leadership and direction to procurement team members, fostering a proactive and commercially focused culture.
* Develop procurement KPIs and deliver regular reports to senior management on purchasing performance, savings, and supply risks.
* Contribute to strategic business planning and decision‑making as part of the senior management team.
Future Scope
* Work closely with QA and Operations teams to develop a deeper understanding of Marketing Authorisations (MAs).
* Oversee the supply chain for Qmed’s own licensed products.
* Continue close collaboration with sales teams to support company growth and market competitiveness in relation to MAs.
What We Offer
* Salary: £60,000.00 per annum (depending on experience)
* Company: TBA (competitive and depending on experience)
* Bonus: Will be competitive and in line with industry standards as a minimum

* Hours: 08:30am to 5.30pm (1 hour unpaid lunch)
