Laboratory Technician
Location: International Study Centre-University of Exeter
Salary: £14.36 per hour
Band: C
Contract type : Zero Hours
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician and Demonstrator to join our team at the International Study Centre at the University of Exeter. This role is a great opportunity for someone with a background in science who is keen to support teaching and learning in a university-level laboratory environment.
You will play an important part in preparing, setting up and supporting lab-based teaching for our Foundation Science and International Year One Biosciences programmes. The role will involve working closely with teaching staff to ensure that practical classes run smoothly, acting as a demonstrator during sessions, and maintaining equipment and resources. You will also help keep the laboratories safe, well-stocked and organised, with full training provided in areas such as First Aid and COSHH.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are quite the same. One day you may be trialling a new experiment, the next ensuring equipment is in good working order or liaising with colleagues about lab safety checks. You will be at the heart of supporting international students in their studies, helping them gain confidence in the lab and make the most of their academic experience.
We are looking for someone with a degree in a relevant scientific subject (biological, physical or chemical sciences) or equivalent qualification. A background in biological sciences would be an advantage, as would previous training in health and safety or COSHH, but these can also be developed on the job. Most importantly, you will bring enthusiasm for science, attention to detail and a commitment to supporting both staff and students.
