Job Title: One to One Teaching Assistant (Contract linked to a specific pupil) Salary Scale Point: TA2 Employer: Mercian Educational Trust Closing Date: Friday 13th March 2026 Interview Date: Tuesday 24th March 2026 Starting Date: ASAP Hours: 20 hours per week J ob Purpose and key skills To provide high-quality support for a pupil with identified special educational needs, including specific learning difficulties and attention-related challenges. The TA will work collaboratively with teaching staff to promote access to learning, emotional wellbeing, and independence in line with the pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Please use the skills below in conjunction with the person specification. Essential: Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly in areas such as speech and language and cognition and learning. Experience delivering small group or 1:1 interventions. Strong understanding of inclusive education and differentiated learning. Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and staff. Skilled in using visual supports, structured routines, and positive behaviour strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Flexible, patient, and empathetic approach. Desirable: Training in early reading and mathematics & a knowledge of the EYFS. Knowledge of effective modelling, scaffolding and multisensory learning. Familiarity with EHCPs and multi-agency working This post requires the ability to perform a role that involves frequent contact with children This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020 You must be able to perform a role that involves constant contact with children. Key Responsibilities Under the direction of and within an education plan provided by the classroom teacher: Support the pupil’s access to the curriculum through differentiated strategies and personalised learning approaches. Promote engagement and focus during learning activities, using appropriate prompts, visual aids, and structured routines. Assist in the development of literacy and numeracy skills through targeted interventions and scaffolded support. Encourage the use of assistive technologies and alternative methods of recording to support written expression. Foster emotional resilience and self-regulation through positive relationships and structured emotional development activities. Contribute to the pupil’s social development by supporting peer interactions and promoting inclusive play and communication. Collaborate with teaching staff and the SENCo to monitor progress, adapt strategies, and contribute to review meetings.
