As part of a well‑established maritime defence engineering team of experienced naval architects, you will deliver innovative solutions that enhance vessel performance throughout the entire lifecycle, ensuring delivery of optimal and reliable solutions.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll focus on testing submarine and surface ship structures to evaluate their performance under operational conditions, primarily supporting the Royal Navy. As a technical lead in materials engineering, you will oversee the delivery of key technical outputs, design reports and documentation, and will be responsible for reviewing and approving work packages, reports, and drawings.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
* Leading and coordinating engineering activities to deliver technical programmes effectively, applying expert judgement to solve complex problems, manage schedules, and ensure delivery within scope, budget, and quality standards.

* Using your skills and knowledge to develop capabilities in your areas of expertise, mentoring others within the wider engineering and technical communities.
* Actively encouraging increased collaboration across the Group and wider technical teams, working with functions such as Technical Excellence and Safety Engineering to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, company, business and project‑specific processes and procedures.
* Using partnerships and other parties to identify and develop joint technical approaches and methods, supporting the Business Development and Sales strategy. Giving technical presentations and speaking knowledgeably about the work conducted in external forums, including conferences and customer meetings.
* Ensuring projects/programmes are conducted safely, highlighting hazards and providing options to reduce risk as low as reasonably practicable.
Essential Experience:
* Significant previous experience of leading multidisciplinary project teams.
* Substantial experience of maritime structural design to recognised codes of practice.
* Good communication skills, both written, verbal and presentational, including the ability to exchange complex information.
* Good customer and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technically complex subjects to non‑specialists.
Essential Qualifications:
* BEng / MEng in Engineering or Materials Science or equivalent experience in an engineering environment.
* Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership.
This role is 37 hours per week based at Rosyth with hybrid working patterns available.
