Sales Director - R&D Incentives


The business


Our client is an international advisory firm operating within the innovation incentives and performance improvement space, supporting businesses that invest in technology, development and technical advancement. The UK business is entering a new phase of growth, with increased backing, expanded capability and a broader European footprint.


The UK team is established, profitable and well supported operationally, but still at a stage where a senior commercial hire can genuinely influence direction, process and market positioning. The environment is professional and collaborative, with centralised delivery support allowing the commercial team to focus on relationship development and revenue growth.


Why this role is exciting


This is a genuine player-coach opportunity for an experienced sales professional within R&D tax. The successful individual will lead from the front commercially while also managing and developing a sales team. The position carries a high degree of internal visibility and offers both operational and strategic influence across the UK business. Rather than inheriting a fixed structure, you will play a meaningful role in shaping sales approach, performance standards and growth strategy.


There is also clear long term progression. As the UK business expands, the role is expected to evolve into a broader leadership position, making this particularly suitable for someone already managing a team or an experienced biller ready to step into leadership without stepping away from commercial activity.


Responsibilities

* Lead, mentor and develop the UK sales team, including coaching, performance management and pipeline oversight
* Establish KPIs and ensure focus remains on high-value business development activity
* Maintain personal billing responsibility and generate new business
* Develop and implement the UK sales strategy and annual sales plan
* Influence team culture, accountability and performance standards
* Prepare tailored commercial proposals and negotiate contractual agreements
* Oversee delivery of assigned projects and maintain partner relationships
* Support marketing initiatives and strengthen referral and indirect channels
* Maintain accurate CRM reporting and weekly client and partner updates
* Contribute to the broader strategic direction of the UK business alongside senior management


What you bring

* Essential! - 5+ years commercial leadership experience within an R&D Tax consultancy or professional services environment.
* At least 3 years managing and developing sales teams
* Understanding of the UK innovation and SME landscape
* Ability to communicate complex or technical services in a clear commercial manner
* Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
* A proactive, autonomous approach and accountability for performance targets
* Commercial judgement and comfort operating in a target-driven environment
