The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing raw materials, components, and services required for manufacturing operations. This role ensures the timely and cost-effective supply of quality materials that meet production schedules and quality standards. The Buyer will collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and logistics teams to optimise supply chain performance and reduce total procurement costs.
Key Responsibilities
* Source and evaluate suppliers of raw materials, components, and production services.
* Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules to achieve optimal cost savings and reliability.
* Issue and manage purchase orders in alignment with production requirements and inventory targets.
* Work closely with production planners to forecast material needs and prevent shortages or overstocking.
* Monitor supplier performance regarding quality, delivery, and responsiveness, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
* Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure supply continuity and long-term partnerships.
* Participate in supplier audits and qualification processes in collaboration with Quality and Engineering departments.
* Identify cost reduction and process improvement opportunities within the supply chain.
* Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and health and safety regulations.
* Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier data, and pricing information in ERP systems.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
* Previous experience as a Buyer or Procurement Specialist in a manufacturing environment.
* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and production planning.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
* Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
* CIPS,
* Experience with lean manufacturing or supplier Kanban programs.
* Knowledge of quality management systems
Day-to-Day
* Collaborate with production planners to ensure materials are available to meet production schedules.
* Communicate with suppliers to confirm orders, track shipments, and resolve any issues.
* Analyse market trends and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost savings.
* Maintain and update procurement records in ERP systems to ensure data accuracy.
* Work closely with engineering and quality teams to ensure materials meet required standards.
* Proactively address supply chain challenges to avoid disruptions in production
