With Endoscopy expanding its services, we have exciting opportunities become available for experienced, motivated and enthusiastic Endoscopy nurses wishing to develop their leadership skills as a permanent Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse on our Endoscopy unit. The opportunity would allow you to gain and develop experience in leadership whilst caring for patients undergoing Endoscopic procedures.

As a competent practitioner, it would be part of your role to demonstrate your leadership and management skills in your support of the unit manager, whilst expertly communicating and coordinating with all members of your team and the wider multidisciplinary team.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to the role and respond appropriately to the demands of an ever-changing workload. You will also support the unit manager in the management and leadership of the unit.

You will support and train new starters, junior and bank/ agency staff whilst providing the clinical skills and expertise required for the unit.

As a competent practitioner you will deliver direct patient care whilst coordinating and overseeing nursing practice.

You will be responsible for :

Ensuring the delivery of clinical activities during the span of duty. The postholder will be expected to clinically lead a nursing team ensuring a high standard of patient care at all times. The postholder will regularly take charge of the Endoscopy unit ensuring that the team provides optimum care efficiently and effectively.

Deputising for the unit manager in his/ her absence, driving forward evidence based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the polices and practices that operate within the clinical area.

To work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.




Working for our organisation


The Endoscopy unit at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital consists of 5 purpose built procedure rooms. The unit delivers the Bowel Cancer screening service alongside the diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy service to outpatients and inpatients. We are a training unit, training both medical staff and nurse endoscopists. We are committed to supporting your ongoing professional development.

Registered nurses on the unit have an obligation to participate in an out of hours on call service for emergencies following training. When on call, nurses are expected to attend within one hour of call out. The Endoscopy unit is now providing a 7 day working service.

We would like to invite you to join our motivated and friendly team who are committed to providing a high quality, patient centred Endoscopy service. The team work closely with Gastroenterologists, Colorectal surgeons, Nurse Endoscopists, clinical nurse specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team. The unit works together with the Research and Innovation Team as it is involved in many clinical trials.
