Protocol Education is working closely with specialist schools and alternative provisions in the Sunderland area to recruit enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistants. These roles involve supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour and require tailored emotional and educational support.
About the Role:
* Support students with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom
* Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals to create a safe and nurturing learning environment
* Use de-escalation techniques and behaviour support strategies effectively
* Provide both academic and emotional support to pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis
* Encourage positive behaviour and help students build confidence and self-esteem
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, autism, ADHD, or related additional needs
* A calm, patient, and empathetic nature
* The ability to build strong and trusting relationships
* Team Teach or similar behaviour management training (desirable, but not essential)
* An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
