Overview / Department Description
We are seeking a senior Software Engineer to provide technical leadership, architectural authority, and hands‑on delivery across our Equity Market Making Trading platform.

Responsibilities
* Role specific:
o Own and evolve platform architecture across on‑premise and AWS cloud environments.
o Lead modernization initiatives: microservices, distributed systems, cloud‑native practices.
o Ensure scalability, resilience, performance, and security‑by‑design.
o Guide technical governance and engineering standards.
* Software Engineering Excellence:
o Deliver high‑quality, maintainable, and secure systems.
o Implement modern DevOps practices: CI/CD, automation, IaC.
o Promote coding standards, testing, code review discipline, and quality metrics.
o Lead technical delivery of complex initiatives, contributing hands‑on where strategic.
o Leverage AI‑assisted coding tools to accelerate development, enforce quality, and optimize delivery.
* Technical Leadership & Mentorship:
o Act as senior technical authority within engineering.
o Mentor senior and mid‑level engineers, raising technical capability.
o Lead complex problem‑solving and critical incident resolution.
o Support hiring, technical evaluation, and team development.
* Operational & Delivery Accountability:
o Maintain platform reliability, scalability, and operational stability.
o Own root cause analysis and remediation planning for incidents.
o Drive best‑practice project governance, e.g., Agile, to deliver results and manage expectations.
o Embed observability, monitoring, and performance metrics.
o Collaborate with operations, compliance, and product teams to deliver business change safely.
* Strategic & Commercial Contribution:
o Contribute to the technology roadmap and long‑term engineering strategy.
o Participate in governance forums, board reporting, and vendor selection.
o Communicate technical direction to senior stakeholders effectively.

* Skills and Experience – Essential:
o 10+ years in software engineering.
o Proven track record designing and delivering scalable, distributed systems.
o Architectural ownership of complex platforms.
o Mentoring and leading engineering teams.
o Experienced in AI‑assisted development workflows.
o Experience of Capital Markets, especially Equity trading, FIX, market data and Trading UIs – beneficial.
o Cloud‑native and DevOps expertise.
o Exposure to regulated environments preferred.
o Leadership potential with ability to assume Head of Software Architecture responsibilities.
* Skills and Experience – Desirable:
o Impact on enterprise‑scale regulated platforms.
o Hands‑on and strategic leadership.
o Exposure to roadmap planning, governance forums, and operational oversight.
o Modern AI‑assisted software engineering across the tech estate.
