Purpose Of The Role
This is an entry-level position designed to support someone early in their career as they gain hands-on experience alongside university study, working towards a digital marketing degree.
The Trainee Marketing Automation Assistant role will sit within the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) team and report to the Marketing Automation Manager. It will provide an opportunity to support how customer communications are built, managed and improved using data and automation.
The role will involve on-the-job learning, with full training and mentoring provided by experienced team members. Over time, the role will develop practical skills in digital marketing, customer data, and campaign automation. It will also involve learning how to use tools such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Einstein AI and Marketing Cloud Personalisation, and understanding how these can be used to deliver smarter, personalised customer experiences at scale.

Key Responsibilities:
With Guidance And Support, The Role Will
Support the setup and testing of marketing emails and automated messages using Salesforce Marketing Cloud
Assist in preparing basic data lists and customer selections to support targeted campaigns
Learn how to build data extensions, queries and automations to create audience segments efficiently
Help to run checks and tests to ensure communications are accurate and working as intended
Contribute to tracking results from campaigns and gathering insights
Assist with automation tasks that help improve customer experience and internal efficiency
Work alongside the CRM, Data and Analytics teams to help deliver and improve campaign activity
Follow internal processes to ensure data accuracy and compliance
Role
This role has been designed as a training opportunity and previous experience is not expected. However, the following attributes would be beneficial:
A genuine interest in digital marketing, customer data and data automation
Curiosity around how tools like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Einstein AI or personalisation platforms work
An interest in learning technical skills such as SQL, HTML, and database structures over time
Confidence using basic digital tools such as spreadsheets, email and web platforms
An eye for detail and a methodical approach to work
A problem-solving mindset and the ability to adapt as things change
A willingness to learn, try new things, and ask questions
Good written and verbal communication skills
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for this role, you will need:
To be at least 18 years old as of 1st September 2025
To have achieved, or predicted to achieve in 2025, a minimum of 104 UCAS points at A-level (grades BCC) or an equivalent (e.g., BTEC DMM) qualification. Candidates who do not meet these requirements but have workplace experience or have completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship programme will be individually evaluated
Maths and English GCSE (or equivalent) grades A* to C (new grades 9 to 4)
To be eligible to work in the UK and not in full-time education
You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject

About The Apprenticeship
As a Trainee Marketing Automation Assistant, you will develop the technical knowledge plus the professional skills and behaviours to work within our exciting and fast-paced CRM team, gaining valuable work experience plus achieving a qualification through a structured apprenticeship programme to kick-start your career.
Within your development program, you will learn and grow technical knowledge such as:
Principles of digital-first marketing
Platform essentials, and platform and channel practice
Introduction to user experience, digital comms, and digital marketing analytics
Principles of e-commerce
Understanding customer engagement and key issues in the digital environment
Audience acquisition and managing social media practice
Managing digital brands and content marketing
Measurement and performance of digital marketing and conversion marketing
Digital value proposition design and digital comms strategy
Digital business model design and digital comms campaign management
By the end of the apprenticeship, you will achieve your Level 6 Digital Marketer apprenticeship plus a fully funded BSc Digital Marketing degree from Manchester Metropolitan University. Typically, the apprenticeship will take around 48 months to complete.
