Job details may vary by site; primary base is St Peter's Hospital with work across Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals. The role is a consultant post in General and Specialist Medicine with shared responsibility for the organisation and operation of the diabetes and endocrine service. The post holder is accountable to the Divisional Medical Director and will contribute to the GIM on-call rota, provide ward cover and outpatient clinics.
Overview
The Diabetes/endocrine department is a consultant-led service focused on inpatient and outpatient care for diabetes and endocrinology patients.
Responsibilities
* The total PAs are 10 (8 DCC, 2 DCC Admin).
* Share equally in the workload of the department.
* Be encouraged to undertake research and develop special interests within the limits of clinical and laboratory service workload.
* Undertake continuing medical education using the study leave entitlement, funded appropriately.
* Participate in clinical audit activities and ensure proper records are completed as required.
* Participate in the professional training of staff (medical and non-medical) and contribute to teaching sessions for hospital staff, undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff; supervise junior medical staff as trained per GMC and KSS Deanery guidelines.
* Participate in departmental staff appraisal as required.
* Maintain continuing responsibility for patient care in charge, in partnership with other consultants for the proper function of the department.
* Undertake any other duties appropriate for a consultant.
Qualifications
Essential
* Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (or CCT) by the time of taking up the post or be accredited for inclusion on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register.
* Fully registered with the General Medical Council.
Desirable
* Experience leading change or innovation in the workplace with a multi-disciplinary team and evidence of continuously improving patient and staff experience.
* Demonstrated alignment with Trust Values Based Behaviours at Exemplary level.
Essential Experience
* Providing direct clinical care and active participation in clinical audit.
* Experience in developing effective and collaborative working relationships.
* Post-CCT consultant in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and diabetes and endocrine.
