Position Summary
WHY JOIN OUR TEAM?
The UK and Ireland legal team work across the whole of Samsung Electronics supporting all the divisions, including:
- The Mobile, TV/AV, Display, and Domestic Appliances divisions, including sales, marketing, product management and supply chain management;
- The Direct to Consumer division, responsible for direct sales to consumers;
- The Corporate Marketing, Social Media, PR and New Business teams;
- The Customer Experience team;
- The Samsung capital (B2B lending) team; and
- The finance, human resources, facilities and other supporting functions.
The team is made up of legal the legal team including legal counsels and paralegals as well as the compliance and sustainability teams.
Role and Responsibilities
Your Key Responsibilities:
Provision of timely and detailed legal advice in relation to legal questions and documentation. The majority of work will be non-contentious in nature and will involve drafting and negotiating commercial agreements. However, the role is a general commercial role and there will be exposure to and involvement in a range of issues, including contentious and regulatory matters.
The role has the following responsibilities:
- Adopting a “business partner” role with assigned parts of the business and providing legal advice to them. This is currently the direct to consumer team and the content teams but may change from time to time.
- Attend team meetings (and team events where possible) with selected business teams in order to build relationship with all team members in relevant division and to understand their strategy and objectives.
- Be the first point of call for employees in the relevant division wanting to discuss legal issues and providing advice in response.
- Identify existing and future legal issues affecting relevant parts of the business; reporting them to others in the Legal Team and the relevant team to reduce risk.
- Develop advice, mentorship and training for each division to contribute to their business.
- Report and escalate matters concerning the relevant division (including any matters requiring board level/leadership team escalation) to the General Counsel UK/I.
- Negotiation of contracts.
- Providing advice on legal issues.
- Handling regulatory matters and litigation.
To work with and support the other lawyers in the team and the Compliance Manager on other legal and compliance matters which arise.
What we need for this role
To be successful, you will possess the following skills and attributes:
1. A qualified solicitor with commercial law and contract drafting experience. The role would suit candidates with three or more years of relevant post qualification experience (although this is not a requirement).
2. Have a solid experience of drafting, negotiating and amending commercial agreements.
3. Good academics and have trained at a good law firm.
4. A firm grasp of general commercial matters in addition to the required regulatory experience, and ideally have experience of advising global consumer products brands.
5. Candidates are expected to be patient, pragmatic, flexible, good communicators, detail focused, culturally aware/ sensitive and be able to explain legal issues in clear terms that are easily understood
6. Able to work under own initiative although the role is to function and be integrated within a small and close knit legal team.
7. Be committed to working within an “in-house” legal environment, and be able to work/connect with, influence and provide guidance to business teams within the organisation.
