International Clinical Fellow in Oculoplastics & Ophthalmology
The Ophthalmology Fellow position is a one year post January 2027-January 2028, to allow a senior trainee exposure to oculoplastic surgery, while further refining their skills in general ophthalmology and cataract surgery. The degree of responsibility given to the appointed doctor will be commensurate with their experience and supervision will be available from the clinical lead of the oculoplastic service & consultant ophthalmologists in the Hospital Eye Service.
The Victoria Eye Unit is the Ophthalmology Department at the Wye Valley NHS Trust and is based in the Eign Suite outpatients department.
Main duties of the job
* The Consultant with whom the appointed Fellow is working will be in overall charge of service and will allocate duties and responsibilities depending on the experience of the appointed doctor.
* The appointed Fellow will work in hospital and community clinics within Herefordshire, Shropshire and Powys and see new and old patients, as required.
* There will be no regular on-call duties but opportunities may arise for on-call duties to be carried out in the event of leave.
* The appointed Fellow undertakes, exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
* The appointed Fellow undertakes exceptionally to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally roistered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
* The appointed Fellow is expected to keep up-to-date with current clinical practice, and may make arrangements to attend local departmental teaching meetings where these fit with their timetable and duties. The appointee is also expected to attend national and international meetings to update on general ophthalmic and in particular oculoplasticsurgery
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration or Must be eligible for the RCOphth Dual Sponsorship programme (with appropriate sponsors identified)
* Experience in a wide range of Ophthalmic activity Postgraduate qualification in general ophthalmology
* Postgraduate qualification in general ophthalmology
Experience & Knowledge
* A minimum of five years since obtaining a primary medical qualification or equivalent gained on a flexible basis
* Independent in phacoemulsification to a high standard
Clinical Governance
* Ability to work/operate unsupervised and perform cataract surgery independently
Research
* Experience in and participation in audit

* Ability to travel - access to own transport
* Must be able to submit handwritten supporting evidence

* Experience working in a busy department

* Ability and willingness to teach junior staff
