Location: Devonport, United Kingdom. The role involves deployment, setting to work and in-service support of Sonar systems deployed on Royal Navy and export customers’ ships/submarines. The role is based in Devonport, with travel across the UK and occasionally overseas, sometimes at short notice.

What will you deliver?
* Be responsible for the Health and Safety of all Thales activities carried out by you and comply with:
o Risk Assessments
o COSHH Assessments
o Safe systems of work
o Be ultimately accountable for your own day-to-day welfare
* Support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms in Defect Rectification:
o Front-line fault diagnosis and testing, and acceptance trials both in harbour and at sea
o On-Call telephone support to customers (at suitable knowledge level)
o Write site visit reports
* Support to both Royal Navy and Export Platforms Maintenance Periods / Refits:
o Pre-Upkeep Maintenance Assessment (PUMA) inspections
o Scheduled maintenance activities
o Setting to work / commissioning activities to bring RN platforms out of refit
o Escalate engineering issues as required
o Write post maintenance reports
* Weekly reports to the Service Delivery Manager / Field Services Manager (as required):
o Activities undertaken
o Upcoming activities
o Successes, challenges, opportunities
o Identify any support required from the project or department
* Identification of your own personal and professional development
* Compliance with all export control rules and regulations including ITAR
* Perform additional ad-hoc duties consistent with this position
Who are we looking for?
* Full UK driving licence
* Demonstrable experience in installations and/or support engineering, preferably in a maritime environment
* Able to use a range of IT tools and generic test equipment
* Track record in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably with Complex Systems (Electrical, Electronic and Hydraulic)
* Willingness to travel occasionally to meet the Royal Navy (less than 10%)
* Capability to fault-find, resolve issues, and communicate effectively at all levels
* Self-motivated and able to work under pressure
Flexibility and Security
This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held; otherwise, the successful applicant will undertake and maintain SC Clearance. Details on evidence required are available via UK Security Vetting guidance. Thales’ baseline security requirements may require evidence of identity and eligibility to work in the UK, plus employment/education history for up to three years. Some vacancies may require full Security Clearance.
