35 hours per week, 47 weeks per year, Fixed Term until 4 January 2027

Southdale Primary School and ELC is a non-denominational school serving the village of Armadale. The school is currently staffed by the Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher and has 11 classes. The school is supported effectively by a small team of Pupil Support Workers, who assist pupils across the school.

The role of the Support for Learning Teacher will be to provide a high standard of support to classes, groups and / or individual pupils in order to ensure effective learning and teaching experiences which meet the needs of all our children.

Key Responsibilities:

* Work in partnership with parents, carers, staff and outside agencies to ensure GIRFEC practices effectively support pupils reaching their potential and promote and safeguard the health, welfare and safety of pupils.
* Assessing, tracking, monitoring and reporting on pupil progress and impact of targeted interventions across the school
* Lead relevant professional learning and provide high quality professional learning opportunities for all staff.
* Provide advice and guidance to pupils, parents, staff and other relevant stakeholders.
* Use data to ensure correct identification of need. Tracking and monitoring of interventions and their impact.
* Provide an overview and specific advice on needs strategies and supports to staff.
* Work with staff and parent/carers to celebrate the success of pupils and identify areas for further development.
* Support learner transitions.


Requirements

Successful applicants should meet the following criteria:

* Be suitably qualified and possess a wide interest in all aspects of education.
* Have significant relevant experience as a teacher who has achieved the very highest standards.
* Demonstrate a broad and informed understanding of how young people learn.
* Have a sound knowledge of current national curricular developments and learning and teaching theory and practice.
* Be able to evidence a capacity for self-evaluation.
* Have the ability to work with a wide range of professionals and agencies in supporting pupils with additional support needs and experience of working in partnership with parents/carers.
* Work in a collegiate manner with colleagues
* Be positive in their approach to issues and be solution focussed.

Desirable Experience

* Experience relating to partnership working with external groups / organisations
* Have relevant experience and training in working with young people with additional support needs.

A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
