Registered Manager – Children’s Residential Home (4-Bed Service)

Location: West Midlands

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 39 hours per week

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum (inclusive of performance and regulatory bonuses)

Reports To: Senior Leadership Team


About the Organisation

The organisation provides nurturing, trauma-informed residential care for young people, helping them to build resilience, develop independence, and achieve positive outcomes in all aspects of their lives. We focus on meaningful relationships, stability, and opportunities for growth as young people transition into adulthood.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Manager to lead a new 4-bed children’s home in West Midlands.


Role Overview

The Registered Manager will take full responsibility for the operational leadership of the home, ensuring it provides a safe, supportive, and high-quality environment for young people. You will oversee the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulatory standards, and organisational policies.

You will lead, inspire, and develop your team to deliver exceptional care and create a home where children and young people feel valued, heard, and empowered.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership and Compliance

* Ensure the home operates in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations, Ofsted SCCIF framework, and all relevant legislation.
* Maintain and promote high standards of care, safeguarding, and equality, embedding an inclusive and anti-discriminatory culture.
* Oversee health and safety compliance, ensuring all staff are trained and confident in their responsibilities.
* Ensure accurate and confidential record-keeping for both young people and staff.
* Manage and report performance data, audits, and evaluations to senior leadership as required.
* Lead and participate in internal and external meetings, representing the service professionally at all times.
* Take part in the on-call rota and cover shifts when necessary to maintain continuity of care.
* Oversee admissions and discharges, ensuring each young person’s transition is well-planned and supported.

Team Management and Development

* Lead by example, creating a positive, motivated, and professional team culture.
* Support the recruitment, induction, and ongoing supervision of staff in line with policy.
* Ensure all team members receive relevant training and continuous professional development opportunities.
* Conduct appraisals, address performance issues, and handle grievances or disciplinary matters in accordance with HR procedures.
* Create and maintain effective staff rotas, managing leave and expenses efficiently.

Financial and Resource Management

* Monitor budgets and expenditure, ensuring financial targets and compliance are achieved.
* Maintain the premises to a high standard, ensuring all facilities and equipment meet health and safety requirements.

External Relations

* Build positive relationships with external professionals, partner agencies, and local authorities.
* Represent the organisation confidently in professional meetings and forums.
* Work collaboratively with commissioning and placement teams to support admissions and placements.


Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience:

* Proven leadership experience in a children’s residential care setting.
* Sound knowledge of safeguarding legislation and child protection procedures.
* Understanding of the needs of vulnerable young people and strategies for supporting positive behaviour.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
* Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail and accountability.
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to achieve within an agreed timeframe).
* Full UK driving licence and access to suitable transport.
