The Role

The post holder will assist the Senior Charge Midwife to deliver high quality evidence based woman and baby centred care. S/he will be involved in providing both individualised patient care and in planning, implementing and evaluating clinical care within all areas of the maternity service, ensuring compliance with NHS Lanarkshire’s policy and procedures and maintaining statutory requirements in accordance with the NMC. To provide safe, effective centred person care.

What we'll need you to bring

1. Registered Midwife with valid NMC Registration
2. Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
3. Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
5. Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.
6. Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.
7. Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
8. The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
9. Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
10. Effective time management skills
11. Working knowledge of basic information technology

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have

12. Completion UNICEF Breastfeeding Training Programme
13. Completion of UNICEF “train the trainer “course or equivalent and/or willingness to undertake
14. Experience in supporting breast feeding
15. Experience of working in NNU
16. Understanding of the Health Improvement Policy agenda
17. Knowledge of Maternal and infant nutrition framework at a Professional Level
18. Evaluation and research skills
19. Autonomous practice and leadership, good written and verbal communications
20. Project Management Skills
21. Presentation/training facilitation skills

Contract type

Fixed Term or Secondment until May 12th 2026

Part Time

22.2 hours

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

Please note this is a fixed term post until 12/05/2026. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Neo-natal Unit within University Hospital Wishaw.

The working pattern for this role will be confirmed at interview
