Position: Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP)

Pay: £28,407 to £34,581 per annum
Job Summary
Work as part of an integrated primary care mental health team within HMP Full Sutton. Provide high-volume, low‑intensity interventions—primarily CBT‑based self‑management strategies—for clients with mild–moderate anxiety and depression. Support Step 1 and Step 2 IAPT services and collaborate with other prison mental health professionals to ensure continuity of care and successful release planning.
Responsibilities
* Accept and triage referrals following agreed protocols; refer unsuitable clients back to the appropriate service.
* Conduct person‑centred interviews, assess risk to self and others, and support self‑management recovery.
* Deliver evidence‑based low‑intensity interventions (e.g., psycho‑education, guided self‑help, CBT techniques) in individual and group formats.
* Attend multi‑disciplinary meetings and coordinate step‑up or step‑down arrangements to maintain a stepped‑care approach.
* Record and evaluate outcome measures and enter clinical data into agreed systems, maintaining high standards of record‑keeping.
* Collaborate with statutory and non‑statutory agencies to ensure continuity of care on release from prison.
* Maintain strict confidentiality, uphold professional values, and adhere to an activity contract regarding client contact and session numbers.
* Contribute monthly performance data and engage in continual professional development.
Qualifications
Essential
* Qualified as a PWP (e.g., Post‑Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies) and completed the IAPT Low‑Intensity National Programme.
Desirable
* Training in nursing, social work, occupational or arts therapy, or other psychological therapy modalities.
* Knowledge of medication for anxiety, depression, and other common mental health issues.
* Experience with solution‑focused therapy or other relevant therapeutic approaches.
Experience
Essential
* Post‑qualification experience delivering Step 2 IAPT low‑intensity interventions.
* Evidence of working within stepped care, delivering measurable recovery outcomes.
* Proficiency in assessment, screening, referral, record‑keeping, and brief psychological interventions.
* Demonstrated ability to build therapeutic relationships and practice inclusively, respecting cultural diversity.
* Experience using clinical outcome measures to inform practice.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficient in standard IT (Microsoft Word, Excel) and relevant clinical database systems.
* Positive use of clinical supervision, self‑reflective practice, and personal development.
Desirable
* Experience working in a prison environment or with offenders.
* Ability to prioritise workload and respond calmly to stressful situations.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development in collaboration with supervisors and line managers.
