The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways team. You’ll be working on some of the largest civil engineering projects in Scotland, with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. These long‑term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers.
The Role
Our Civil Engineers play an important part within the Design team and work alongside our client, Transport Scotland.
Responsibilities Include
* Work in a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
* Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
* Liaise with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attend progress meetings, respond to queries, etc.
* Manage a small, locally based single‑discipline technical team and take responsibility for delivery of workload.
* Contribute to the preparation of bids and the general work‑winning function.
* Work on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full‑time but temporary role, including out‑of‑hours working.
What You Will Bring To Us
* A Degree/Master’s qualification in a relevant discipline
* Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts
* The ability to work in a commercial and customer‑focused way that achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income
* Confidence to work under minimum supervision and competence to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
* A good understanding of Manual for Streets, DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.
* A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design
* The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required
* Ability to deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required
* Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team
