Walker Sime is recruiting an Assistant Project Manager to support delivery on major, complex engineering and infrastructure programmes within a highly regulated environment. This role will be based onsite in Barrow-in-Furness, offering the opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects while working closely with senior commercial and delivery teams.
As Assistant Project Manager, you will assist in the successful coordination and delivery of engineering and infrastructure workstreams. You’ll collaborate with commercial, technical, and operational stakeholders to support contract administration, cost control, and project delivery activities under NEC contracts.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Project Management team in planning, coordinating, and delivering assigned project workstreams
* Assist in the management and administration of NEC contracts (ECC, PSC, etc.), including early warnings, compensation events, and formal correspondence
* Support commercial control activities including cost reporting, forecasting, and risk management
* Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders including engineering, operations, suppliers, and subcontractors
* Support project governance, progress reporting, and programme controls
* Contribute to weekly and monthly reporting and stakeholder presentations
* Ensure compliance with client processes, standards, and health, safety and environmental requirements
* Support resolution of project issues and contractual queries
Key Skills & Experience
* Experience within defence, aerospace, engineering, or other highly regulated sectors
* Experience working with the NEC contract suite (NEC3/NEC4) or a strong understanding of NEC principles
* Commercial awareness with exposure to cost control, forecasting, or project financial reporting
* Strong organisational and analytical skills with the ability to prioritise workload
* Excellent communication skills with confidence liaising across multiple stakeholder levels
* Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and reporting tools
Qualifications
* Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction, Commercial Management, Business, or similar discipline (desirable)
* Professional qualifications (e.g., APM, PMI, RICS or equivalent) advantageous
