We're looking an experienced Project Design Engineers with a strong background in piping and routing to join a specialist marine design team. This is a hands-on contract role where you'll contribute to high-impact projects involving complex fluid systems and mechanical layouts. You'll play a key role in maintaining project continuity and ensuring successful delivery across active marine engineering programmes.
Responsibilities, but are not limited to
Design and route pipework, fuel, and seawater systems using SolidWorks Routing tools
Develop and modify 3D models and assemblies for marine vessel systems using SolidWorks 2025
Interpret P&ID diagrams and implement accurate 3D system layouts
Collaborate with shop floor teams to ensure designs are practical, maintainable, and accessible
Set up new components and integrate them into existing ship models
Produce and manage BOMs, product libraries, and downloaded models
Apply DFM principles to optimise designs for manufacturing, including components sourced internationally
Use PDM systems to manage design data and maintain version control
Work with aluminium structures and confined ship zones (e.g., engine rooms) as neededExperiences required
Proven experience in marine, vessel, shipping, or similar environments (e.g. oil & gas, aerospace)
Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, particularly the Routing tool for piping and tubing
Solid understanding of P&ID creation and layouts for gas, water, or fuel systems
Experience producing detailed technical drawing packs for manufacture, including BOMs
Background in mechanical system design with a focus on fluid routing and integration
Familiarity with aluminium and welded assemblies is beneficial but secondary to routing expertise
