High Dependency Unit Consultant Psychiatrist

We are delighted to announce a new 16 bed High Dependency Rehabilitation Unit (HDU) based at Doncaster, serving patients from Rotherham, Doncaster and North Lincolnshire. The unit will provide intensive and recovery-focused support, with patients potentially staying up to 12 months.
Main Duties
* Lead the 16-bed male High Dependency Rehabilitation Unit (Phoenix Ward) located on Tickhill Road, Doncaster.
* Provide intensive support and care for individuals with severe and complex mental health conditions requiring higher-level supervision and structured rehabilitation.
* Develop and implement therapeutic interventions, medication management and personalised care plans aimed at stabilising patients and helping them regain everyday living skills.
* Promote recovery, improve mental health and facilitate transition to less intensive care or community living.
* Collaborate with a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) comprising Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Housing Support, Speech and Language Therapy, Peer Support and Nursing.
Person Specification
Experience
* Minimum of ten years of medical work since obtaining a primary medical qualification.
* Experience in psychiatric practice across a range of settings, audit experience and understanding of clinical governance principles.
* Ability to practise clinically autonomously.
* Previous role as a Senior Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry.
* Evidence of development of a special interest.
* Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
* Other special interest or expertise relevant to the post.
Qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC and license to practice.
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of completing their CCT.
* MRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification.
* Higher Senior Training in General Adult Psychiatry (e.g. SpR scheme).
* Endorsement in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.
* MD, management qualification or other professional qualification (e.g. CBT, PSI, CAT).
Knowledge
* Knowledge of research processes.
* Committed to Continuing Professional Development.
* Sound knowledge of NHS management structures and systems.
* Ability to undertake training/mentoring of medical staff in junior grades and enthusiasm for education.
Skills
* Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, evidenced by undergraduate medical training in English or IELTS score of 7.5 (single sitting within 24 months).
* Access to a motor vehicle with an appropriate licence.
* Approved Clinician Status.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year (pro rata).
